American Auto Shield claims process: a quick 6-step guide
We are sorry your vehicle is experiencing issues. We understand how frustrating not having a working vehicle must be, and we will be here for you while your car is being repaired.
Here’s a guide to take you through the claim process step-by-step:
1. PREVENT further damage
As soon as safely possible, stop use of the vehicle. Pull over to the nearest safe location to avoid any further damage. If your vehicle is disabled, call roadside assistance at 1-866-222-7869, and a service vehicle will be dispatched to you.
2. CHOOSE a licensed repair facility
Take your vehicle to a licensed repair facility of your choice, or you may choose a repair facility in our Preferred Network. Provide the licensed Repair Facility with your Contract Number and the Claims Administrator’s phone number, 1-800-531-1925.
3. FILE your claim
It is common for a Repair Facility to perform a diagnostic test on the vehicle before contacting the Claims Administrator to receive authorization for the claim.
NO CLAIMS WILL BE PAID WITHOUT PRIOR AUTHORIZATION.
WAYS TO FILE A CLAIM:

4. AUTHORIZE inspection and/or teardown
It may be necessary for the Repair Facility to inspect and/or teardown your vehicle to accurately determine the cause of failure and calculate the cost of the repair. You will be responsible for this cost, if the failure is not covered under your contract.
5. PAYMENT of authorized repairs
We will pay the Repair Facility directly for covered and authorized repairs or additional contract benefits, minus your deductible.
6. RENTAL car benefits
If your covered repair is scheduled and authorized for more than 4 hours of labor, you may take advantage of the rental car benefit included in your contract.
- Call American Auto Shield at 1-800-531-1925 to confirm coverage.
- Choose your rental facility. This may be obtained through your dealer or a local rental car agency.
- Authorized benefits are reimbursed to you according to your contract.
